Charles Parham was born in Muscatine, Iowa. Though out life he had severe health struggles. When he was young he turned to Christianity believing on its promise of eternal life. He enrolled in college in 1890 to prepare for ministry. While there he got rheumatic fever. He sought God for healing promising to continue his goal. God healed him and Charles studied till age of 19 when he started ministry.
In 1898 Charles got married, moved to Topeka and opened Beth-El Healing Home where he taught healing and praying for the sick.
In 1899 he adopted the idea that the Holy Spirit baptized belivers enabling them to speak in specific unlearned languages for world evangelization. He envisioned sending out missionaries with their new skill. While traveling to religious centers he heard speaking in tongues for the first time.
His teaching expanded to include baptism with tongues and the Lord's return. He opened Bethal Bible School in Topeka where shorlty after Charles and other students spoke in tongues. After negative criticism the college was sold out from under him.
In 1903 he traveled to MO. where his prayers healed Mary Arthur, which drew attention to his ministry. He started conducting revivals where many were converted to Christ. He opened another bible school in Texas.
In 1907 he lost his standing in the Pentecostal Movement because of alleged sexual misconduct. He spent the last 20 years of his life out of the spot light working as an evangelist and faith healer.
